Sanitation

The Solid Waste Utility is one of the City's three Municipal Utilities, and is responsible for the collection of wastes, and disposal at the Sanitary Landfill. The functions of the Solid Waste Utility can be broken down into three categories:
  • Residential Collection
  • Trade Waste
  • Landfill
October 4, 2004 the city starting enforcing the Waste Management Bylaw #5156 regarding residential garbage pickup. A tag will be placed on bags containing unacceptable waste items, or that weight over 50lbs each. The problem must be corrected before pickup on the next scheduled garbage day. To avoid getting a tag and having to bag your garbage twice, use more bags with less weight in each. Please help to reduce injuries to the city collection staff by safely preparing your garbage. For further information contact the City Engineering Department 694-4448.

Collection Schedule

Garbage collection begins at 7:30 a.m. except for the summer months(June to September) when it begins at 6:00 a.m.

The residential and commercial collection schedule is fixed each year, and moves forward by one day after each statutory holiday.

Community Clean Up Week!

April 27th to May 3rd, 2008 was designated Community Clean Up Week for 2008. Helping keep Moose Jaw a beautiful place to live is everyone's responsibility.

That's why this week, the City of Moose Jaw had drop off points to collect your neighbourhood's garbage. Groups and individuals were encouraged to show their Civic Pride by cleaning up their neighbourhoods and yards during this week. All bagged garbage was taken to designated drop off points and City crews collected it.

Interested persons or groups can contact the Engineering Department for more information.
