Bylaw Enforcement

Bylaw Enforcement Pamphlet

The Engineering Department administers a number of Bylaws and Acts, including the Noxious Weeds Act, the Minimum Maintenance Bylaw, the Untidy & Unsightly Property Bylaw.

The Minimum Maintenance Bylaw ensures that properties within the City are kept at a minimum level of maintenance.

The Untidy & Unsightly Bylaw ensures that properties are kept neat.

The Process involved in enforcing a Bylaw is as follows:
  • A Complaint is received regarding a property.
  • An inspection of the property is completed.
  • If warranted, an Order is issued to remedy the problem by a certain date.
  • The property is re-inspected to determine if the work has been completed.
  • The property owner, in some cases, has a right to appeal the clean up order.
  • If the property has not been remedied, then the City will undertake to complete the work, and bill the property owner the cost.
