City Council is assisted in its decision making process by a number of boards and committees appointed by Council from the citizenry. Applications for any of the Boards, Committees & Commissions are welcomed anytime. Additional information on the Boards, Committees & Commissions can be obtained by contacting the City Clerk/Solicitor's Office. Board of Revision The Board of Revision is an assessment tribunal; a quasi-judicial body whose function and focus is to determine whether an error has been made in the assessment of a property. The Board of Revision is not intended to deal with unrelated issues such as the adequacy of municipal services, overall tax levels or mill rates. The Board hears and determines appeals pursuant to The Cities Act and in accordance with the procedures, formulas, rules and principles as found in the Saskatchewan Assessment Manual. Meetings are held at the call of the Chair. The term is for two years and consists of ten members. The Board of Revision currently provides a per diem based on the number of meetings/sessions that each member is assigned to hear for the assessment year. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Development Appeals Board The Board hears and determines appeals pursuant to The Planning and Development Act, 1983 respecting development permits and variances to the City of Moose Jaw's Zoning Bylaw. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. The term is for three years. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Downtown Moose Jaw's Business Improvement District(BID) The Board is responsible to promote the downtown business area as a shopping area and to promote the improvement, beautification and maintenance of the downtown core as a business district of the City. Meetings are held at the call of the chair (approximately once a month). Ten representatives are appointed by City Council. The term is for one year. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Economic Development Commission The Commission acts in an advisory capacity to City Council and does research and planning of programs necessary for economic development of the City. Meetings are held at the call of the chair (approximately once a month). Three representatives of major community organizations (ie. MJ Chamber of Commerce; MJ & District Labour Council, etc.) are required. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Hillcrest Curling Management Board The Hillcrest Curling Management Board is a management board that assists City Council with the operation of the Hillcrest Curling Facility. The Board consists of one (1) member of City Council, one (1) member of City Administration, and five (5) citizens at large. The term is for one (1) year. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Moose Jaw Board Of Police Commissioners The Board sets policy for the management of the Moose Jaw Police Service as set out under The Police Act. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month. The term is for one year. Meetings are held at the call of the chair. The term is for one year. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Moose Jaw Multiplex Steering Committee The Committee will serve as an advisory committee to City Council on matters pertaining to the planning, design and funding of the proposed Multiplex, including providing recommendations on the major program components, location, project budget and project funding sources. The Council of the City of Moose Jaw is entitled to nominate four (4) citizens at large. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Moose Jaw Public Library Board The Board undertakes the duties and responsibilities per The Public Libraries Act, 1996. Meetings are held monthly and as required. The term is for one year. Interested citizens must also be willing to sit on the Palliser Regional Library Board pursuant to the aforementioned Act. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Municipal Advisory Committee On The Environment The Board is responsible for planning and co-ordinating environmental education events and resources. Meetings are held every fourth Thursday of every second month. The term is for one year. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment List of businesses/organizations, which provide recycling services within the City of Moose Jaw Back to the Top Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee The Board advises and assists Council on any matter arising out of The Heritage Property Act. Meetings are held monthly. The term is for two years. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Municipal Planning Commission The Board advises and assists Council on community planning and development within the City. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The term is for three years. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Murals Project Management Board The Board is responsible for the management, control and supervision of the painting of murals. Meetings are held monthly. The term is for two years. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Palliser Regional Library Board The Board, pursuant to The Public Libraries Act, 1996 is comprised of members of the local library board, being the MJ Public Library Board. The term is for two years. Members are required to attend two semi-annual meetings of the Board and others as required. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Parks & Recreation Advisory Board The Board advises Council regarding matters pertaining to the Parks & Recreation Department policies and facility operations including Arenas. Meetings are held six times per year on the fourth Wednesday of the month. The term is for two years. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Race Relations Committee The Committee advises Council on matters pertaining to short-term and long-term strategies to reduce racial tension and promote racial harmony. Meetings are held every second month. The term is for one year. The mandate of the Committee shall be as follows:
Back to the Top Special Needs Advisory Board The Board advises Council on matters pertaining to accessibility issues, including the special needs transit system, etc. Meetings are held every second month. The term is for one year and there are ten board members(five of whom are appointed by City Council and five of whom are subsequently appointed by the Board). Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Traffic/Parking Technical Committee The Committee addresses traffic & parking concerns within the City of Moose Jaw. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month. The term is for one year and there are three citizen-at-large board members. One representative from the trucking industry is also required. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Transit Advisory Committee The Committee provides policy advice and recommendations to City Council and Administration on any matters affecting the efficient and sustainable operation of the City's Transit System. Meetings are held every two months or at the call of the chair. The term is for one year. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Wakamow Valley Authority The Board's duties are the control, planning and development of Wakamow Valley. Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month. The term is for two years. Boards, Committee & Commissions Application For Appointment Back to the Top Youth Advisory Committee The Committee advises City Council regarding issues affecting the youth of our community, including recommending changes to municipal programs to make them more youth friendly. The Committee is comprised of one (1) member of City Council and two (2) student representatives that are appointed by City Council from each of the City of Moose Jaw High Schools and SIAST, Palliser Campus.
